Paper Cleanout Bin

Important: before you can request a paper recycling bin, you must read and agree to follow the guidelines below. The "Agree" button at the bottom of the page links to the bin request form.

1. Please use the recycling bin for PAPER ONLY, including:

  • White paper
  • Newspaper
  • Colored paper
  • Magazines and journals
  • Paperback books
  • File folders
  • Box board

2. Please REMOVE all METAL and PLASTIC, including:

  • Paper Clips
  • Spiral bindings
  • Spines of hanging file folders
  • Overhead transparencies
  • Shrink wrap

3. The following items should NOT be placed in the paper recycling bin:

  • Styrofoam blocks or peanuts
  • Coffee cups
  • Tissue paper
  • Overhead transparencies
  • Photographs
  • Food
  • Computer disks
  • Printer cartridges
  • Three ring binders

4. UW Recycle Center does NOT accept undestroyed CONFIDENTIAL RECORDS. Confidential paper records must be destroyed in a manner that assures no reconstruction. All confidential papers must be shredded and put in a plastic bag before placing them in the recycling bin. Records considered confidential include:

  • Patient records
  • Personnel files
  • Student files
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Bank account numbers
  • Credit card numbers

5. To recycle additional materials, refer to the Recycle website: www.washington.edu/facilities/transportation/recyclingandsolidwaste/procedures.php

6. Refer to the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) website for removal of hazardous waste, including batteries and sharps: www.ehs.washington.edu/waste/index.htm

7. Refer to the Surplus website for removal of all other University property, including office equipment, computers, and furniture: www.washington.edu/admin/surplus
